May is Mental Health Awareness Month, a time dedicated to breaking the stigma that prevents so many from seeking the care they need. While mental health affects everyone, it presents a unique challenge for men, who often feel pressured by societal expectations to remain stoic and “tough it out.”

A stack of brochures beside a sign saying "Brochure of the Month: May. May is Mental Health Awareness Month, often stigmatized by masculine norms.
1 in 10 men experience depression or anxiety, yet less than half get treatment.
Men are 4 times more likely to die by suicide than women, with fewer warning signs.
Beyond mood changes, watch for physical symptoms like headaches, digestive issues, and increased risk-taking behavior."

Please visit the DBSA WV office in Morgantown for free brochures on depression, bipolar disorder, and many other topics.
